Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants(:

Picture
Carmen picked up the jeans at the thrift store. She bought them just because she felt she should buy something while she was in the store with her friends. Then she put them in the back of her closet. At the end of the school year, her and her three best friends were splitting for the summer. They are 15, and it is the first summer they will be apart. On the night before three flew off, the pants came out of the closet. Tibby tries them on - they look great on her. Lena tries them on - they look great on her, too. Then Bridget takes her turn. The pants look different on her, and still great. Then Carmen grudgingly tries them onThey look great on her, too! Although all four girls have different bodies, but Carmen’s is the most different, these are magic pants. So the girls make a pact - the pants will travel with them all summer. Each girl will wear them, and then send them on to the next friend. First the pants will go to Lena in Greece. She and her sister are visiting their grandparents. Next they will go to Tibby, she has to stay home and work at Walman’s. Then to Carmen in South Carolina, she is visiting her dad. Then lastly to Bridget who is going to a soccer camp in Baja, California.

The main characters are Carmen, Lena, Tibby, and Bridget.

Carmen Lowell - She is probably the most thoughtful friend. Carmen is the most Wise of the four girls, and she recognizes the importance of their friendship more clearly than the other girls do. Half Puerto Rican and half white, Carmen lives with her mother, Christina. Her plans for spending a summer with her father, Albert, in South Carolina are ruined when she discovers that Albert is engaged to a woman with two teenage children.

Tibby Rollins - The rebellious, sarcastic friend who learns valuable life lessons thanks to her young friend, Bailey. Tibby is the only friend who stays home in Bethesda, Maryland, for the summer. She spends her time working at Wallman’s and working on her Biography, with Bailey. Tibby eventually learns to look beyond people’s outside and see what’s inside.

Bridget Vreeland - The athletic, daring friend who spends the summer at soccer camp in Baja California, Mexico. Bridget is brave and a little reckless, she’s an ace soccer player, but she can sometimes be too aggressive, and she is often yelled at for not being a team player. Bridget falls in love with a coach named Eric, an experience that leaves her upset. Bridget’s mother died many years ago.

Lena Karigalis - The shy, beautiful friend who travels to Oia, Greece, to spend the summer with her grandparents. Lena is quiet but, happiest when she can spend time alone and paint. She distrusts all boys. Her failure to open up to people leads her to make a confusing mess out of an unexpected meeting she has with Kostos. Worried about her being alone forever and never married, she tells him that she is starting to like him.

The setting takes place in many places…

-      Greece (Lena)

-      Baja California, Mexico (Bridget)

-      South Carolina (Carmen)

-      Bethesda, Maryland (Tibby)

There really isn’t a climax because every character has their own little climax.

Lena- She distrusts all boys. So her grandmother sets her up with a Greece boy, scared she will never find love she tells him that she likes him.

Bridget- She has a VERY bad attitude especially when it comes to soccer. She falls in love with a coach but winds up upset because her mother died a few years ago.

Tibby- She is very sarcastic and she judges people by what is on the outside, not the inside. And she has to stay home all summer and work at Walman’s, while writing a biography with her other friend Bailey.

Carmen- Most thoughtful. Her summer is ruined when she finds out her father is engaged to a woman with 2 teenage daughters.
